Overview
For patients who require additional support beyond standard lifestyle changes but wish to avoid traditional surgery, Endoscopic Weight Loss Procedures offer a highly effective, minimally invasive solution.
These advanced procedures are performed entirely through the mouth using a flexible endoscope, completely eliminating the need for any external incisions or scarring. Endoscopic treatments are designed to safely reduce stomach capacity, promote early satiety, and support significant weight loss.
Benefits
- Incision-Free: No external scars or cuts.
- Faster Recovery: Quicker return to work and daily activities compared to traditional surgery.
- Highly Effective: Significantly restricts food intake, leading to rapid and sustainable weight loss.
- Reversible/Adjustable: Some procedures (like the gastric balloon) are completely reversible.
Procedure / Program Details
Under sedation or light anesthesia, a specialized endoscope is inserted through the mouth and down into the stomach. Available procedures include:
- Intragastric Balloon: A temporary, space-occupying balloon is placed and inflated in the stomach.
- Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG): Uses an endoscopic suturing device to reduce the size and volume of the stomach from the inside.
Preparation
Patients are required to undergo pre-procedural lab tests and a nutritional evaluation. You will need to fast (no food or drink) for a specified period (usually 8-12 hours) before the endoscopy to ensure the stomach is completely empty.
Recovery / Maintenance
Most patients go home the same day. You may experience mild throat irritation, nausea, or cramping for a few days as the stomach adjusts. A strict liquid-to-solid food transition diet is required in the weeks following the procedure.
Risks
Risks are generally lower than traditional surgery but may include temporary nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or minor bleeding. In rare cases, a gastric balloon may deflate or migrate. Our team provides comprehensive post-procedure care to mitigate these risks.
